Every design decision has a why, the business ones and the visual ones. But there’s a difference in how we treat them. Business reasoning is expected You’re supposed to be able to defend it, because it’s money (to increase user conversion, to lower engineering time, etc) The visual why Why this spacing or this motion, often gets treated like something you either have or you don’t. And that’s not what I was taught when I studied architecture and graphic design I remember learning to observe, but also the proportion calculations, the geometry behind a building drawn in perspective and when I was figuring out what’s the best line for a shadow behind a building. But directing AI exposed that I can’t cleanly explain every visual decision I make Motion especially, that’s not my strongest area, and working with AI tools, like Claude Design, made that quickly obvious. And to be fair, it taught me a few things already. I’m learning how to use AI tools in a way that actually keeps my work mine. I’m not saying directing taste is enough to build a top notch app with AI. But it’s the first step to getting a feeling of control back, and I’m sharing my 3 tactics for it in the video. The tool I’m using is Claude Design, currently in beta.
