The difference between a landing page that looks good and one that earns its traffic

How do you tell the difference between a landing page that is actually convincing and one that just looks good?

It is incredibly difficult if you only look at the design. You can search for landing page inspiration online and find beautiful, polished examples.

But you have no idea if they actually work. You do not know if real marketers are putting real money behind them.

Sometimes, a page is just "pretty polish."

A company just raised a round of funding, got a new logo, and did a complete design overhaul to make their investors happy. It looks great, but it has zero track record in the market.

Longevity is the signal

A landing page that earns its traffic has one defining characteristic: longevity.

The ultimate indicator of a landing page's success is how long a company has been spending money to send traffic to it.

If a business is paying for clicks day after day, week after week, that is a strong signal they are getting a return.

When you find a page like that, you track it. You take notes. You watch for changes.

Did they just change the headline? Why?

Did they revert back to the original a week later?

That tells you they are iterating. They are testing assumptions.

By tracking these changes over time, you get a window into the minds of the marketers behind the page. You start to understand why they are doing what they are doing, not just what it looks like.

Pretty polish vs proven performance

So, the next time you find a new landing page, ask yourself: Are they running ads to this?

Is there real money behind it? Or is it just a shiny new design with no proven track record?

Do not copy the pretty pages. Copy the pages backed by real ad spend.
